Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwestern Indiana is excited to announce our newest Board member, Travis Owens.
Travis was born in Corbin, Kentucky and obtained degrees majoring in Computer Science from the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University and Southern New Hampshire University. Travis works as the Assistant Director of Information Technology in the city of Henderson and has been there for the last three years. As a kid Travis wanted to be a Video Game Developer, and he is described as a patient, curious and humorous person.
As the newest member of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Travis is excited to serve the organization and community because he is “contributing to an organization that is close to my heart and that has a meaningful impact on our community.” Travis explains that he chose Big Brothers Big Sisters because “Over the past year I became a Big and have been involved in various events. BBBS is an organization that I am passionate about and want to further my involvement with.”
In his free time, Travis enjoys cooking, computer programming, bicycling and community service. Travis explains that his favorite childhood movie did not exist when he was a child but if it did, it would be Disney’s Tomorrowland (2015). A favorite line of his, that comes from this movie is “Even the teeniest of actions can change the future.”- Casey Newton (Tomorrowland) Travis believes that kids are important because “they’re the leaders of tomorrow and our future is dependent on their success.”
Travis’s favorite quote is “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” -Mother Teresa
This certainly reflects Travis’s character in all aspects of his life, and we are so excited to onboard him into our team.
Please join us in welcoming Travis to our Board of Directors.
