Meet the Board: Philip Smith

Philip Smith is a Special Projects Coordinator. He helps oversee the social media and community outreach for the police department. Though originally from Clarksville, TN, he went to college in Evansville at the University of Southern Indiana. He joined the board for Big Brothers Big Sisters because he enjoys

“being around like minded people that put the value of children” high.

Phillip states the reason we need to put the value of children high is because they are future leaders and help teach adults much about the world. He learns from his children by coaching his daughter’s basketball

team and watching movies with his son. His favorite quote is from a classic film franchise, Star Wars, “Do or do not. There is no try.” This quote encapsulates his energetic and passionate personality.

In these difficult times, Phillip said the last thing that made him smile was seeing “the people of Evansville coming together to provide meals for families,” in the middle of the pandemic. The last book he read was Creating Magic by Lee Cockerell. The book is written by the Former Executive Vice President of Operations at Walt Disney Resort. Right now, it is important to remember, as Cockerell states in the book, “It’s not the magic that makes it work; it’s the way we work that makes magic.”

Our Board of Directors are some of the largest advocates and supporters of our organization. We are grateful for an engaged Board of Directors who are committed to our vision for all children to achieve success in life.
