Meet Emily Patton, another of our amazing board members here at Big Brothers Big Sisters! Emily is originally from Nebo, Kentucky, and earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in News Editorial Journalism from Western Kentucky University. Now local to the area, she has worked as a Digital Marketing Coordinator at Escalade Sports for four years, and is currently earning her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Southern Indiana. Emily believes that kids are the future of our community, and is a member of our board because she enjoys helping to raise money and inspire others to be a mentor. Emily was extremely shy as a child, so she wasn’t involved in any sorts of extracurriculars. However, she had a wonderful mentor growing up who helped her to embrace her passions and get out and pursue them. She doesn’t know where she would be today if she hadn’t had them, and loves getting the chance to pay that sort of relationship forward.
Growing up, Emily wanted to be a sports reporter. She loved watching the events and then reading the stories about them afterwards, and even collected all sorts of Sports Illustrated and ESPN magazines, along with giant stacks of newspapers. She actually was a sports reporter for some time, but eventually made the transition to marketing, where she now gets to help sell sports equipment that is used by athletes all over the world! When not busy with her job or serving on our board, Emily is a huge advocate for rescue work, especially with English Setters-she has two of her own, Winston and Ivy. She also fosters them, and she and her husband Nathan love taking the dogs for hikes or long walks in the woods.
Emily loves working with rescues and shelters to help get dogs adopted, transported, or screened for adoption. She works her hardest to emulate her favorite quote, “nothing changes if nothing changes.” She says that she had always wanted to volunteer and serve her community, but for years, she never got involved. Emily says that this quote serves as a reminder that if you want change, you can make it happen. Emily has been a Big Sister in our program since 2016, and continues to strive to make that change by serving as a board member for our organization today!
Our Board of Directors are some of the largest advocates and supporters of our organization. We are grateful for an engaged Board of Directors who are committed to our vision for all children to achieve success in life.
